A Day in the Life with Instructional Designer and Trainer Courtney Ault

Welcome to “A Day in the Life” blog series. Each month, we’ll interview one of our team members to learn about their experiences at Code42 to give you an inside look into different roles within our company.

Introducing Courtney Ault, Instructional Designer and Trainer at Code42. Day-to-day includes teaching instructor-led classes to both internal Code42 employees as well as customers and staying on top of new product launches for our data protection solution, Incydr. Outside of work, Courtney enjoys cooking new recipes, listening to records and event planning for the Columbia Heights Pride community.

What do you enjoy most about working at Code42?

The people hands down – I have made so many close friendships in my 6+ years working here that I know will continue even if I no longer work here.

What excites you most about your work?

I love teaching and my role is the perfect fit for this passion. It’s very rewarding to hear from folks that they learned something new.

Tell us about your favorite memory at Code42

In 2019 and 2020, the Code42 employee affinity groups worked together on a book club series to discuss Ijeoma Oluo’s book “So You Want to Talk About Race”. The engagement and resulting action from participants was awesome.

How has Code42 enabled you to maintain a sense of connection, while working from home?

Daily team stand ups at the beginning of the pandemic were so helpful. I also appreciated the frequent and transparent communication from leadership. Being back in the office one day a week has been a fantastic way to reconnect as well.

What personal goals do you have that Code42 can help you achieve?

Becoming a better and more experienced instructional designer and provider of adult education. If I was not given the opportunity to join my current team, there is no way I would have been able to work towards these goals.

What have you learned recently?

I have been learning more and more holistically about Insider Risk Management (not just how our product Incydr fits into a program). It is such an emerging area to information security and I think Code42’s Approach to Empathetic Investigations makes total sense.

Is there a customer interaction or training moment that is particularly memorable to you? Why does it stand out?

A student in a class shared with me their career trajectory from IT support to security analyst at their company and how hard they worked to get into the infosec space. It was such a special, personal story that I will never forget. Definitely my favorite student ever!

What new skills have you gained during your time on the Expert Practices & Education team?

Delegating – I am the kind of person that likes to do things myself so learning how to delegate and trust others has been a hard-learned skill, but one that I exercise freely now.

We are:

Accelerators of innovation. Enablers of collaboration. Protectors of ideas.

Code42 speeds the time to detect and respond to Insider Risks by delivering a fast, simple path to data loss detection, investigation and response. With our product, Incydr™, security teams easily protect corporate data and reduce insider risk while fostering a collaborative and productive culture for employees. We’re here to support organizations made up of people that move fast and think big. The ones who work together to solve hard problems and relentlessly pursue better.

You belong at Code42 if you crave being a part of a transparent and team-first culture, you want to drive innovation, and security is always top of mind. We look for authentic people who are inquisitive, enjoy solving complex problems, and provide diverse insights to help us think differently and thrive together.
